I've already played this map so heres what I have to say:
The terrain was fuckin' sweet, but the balancing was pretty terrible. At first you just sit around and don't do anything for a few minutes, then everyone is hesitatingly trying to attack eachother and the game goes on for HOURS. Oh yeah and the unit attack time is totally off, they strike before they've swung (it's set to 0...).

Heh, I suppose the game time depends on the players playing the game. I usually play with people who attack as fast as possible, and the game usually lasts 45 minutes to an an hour for me.

If you played conquest mode, that mode is meant to take a while, and I don't personally play it. In all other modes, focus your attacks around the Town Center/Stronghold, since the player automatically loses if it falls. The game goes even faster if people form alliances, since this almost always creates an noticeable advantage for one force over the other.

I'll look into the unit attack time, thank you very much for noticing this, it's never been brought up before.

I'm the worst melee player in the history of history. I suck so bad at this map, Sac feels a sharp pain in his chest each time I try to play it. I helped him beta test a few times, and my allies came and backstabbed me right when I thought I knew what was going on. It's a cool map, though... the terraining is especially awesome.

Update (v0.40): Nothing major, but still fixes a number of things:

- Bowman and Elven Archer buffed
- Ranger sight range buffed
- Stealth (Ranger Ability) now does more backstab damage, but slows movement speed by 15%

- Added a new upgrade: "Men-At-Arms" & "Supremacy" which trains worker units to be able to fight.

Nice map, but very, very slow gameplay. Gold aquiration takes ages. On top of that, winning before you get siege weapons is impossible, so you have to get like 10,000 gold before it even gets started. Not great fun.

However, the ideas behind the map are good, fairly unique. Just I feel it is too slow, and I like maps like this.

The overall game is meant to be slower than normal melee, so that it is not just a race to who can rush the fastest, or who can tech the fastest.

I agree it is a bit slower than I like, but seeing multiple people say "its too easy to build up a surplus" influenced me to slow down resource gathering. I have noticed there's a pretty big gap between people who just sit in their base and defend, and people who make the effort to expand, and you might be on the side that doesn't expand as much.

Usually I find myself building with a person from the start, and one of us specializes in siege while the other person specializes in regular units, and both of us defend. Either way, I think allying up and specializing will always be better than trying to do everything yourself.

On a side note, if you don't have any gold to use on siege, just buy a bunch of petards (the suicide explosive guys) and explode them on the buildings.

I am looking for any suggestions on making it faster, while making it not a "race" but for now I am leaving it as it is.

I had two gold mines running up asap, and then pretty much also asap set up two more. I did it far faster than I should have, banking on my opponent not finding me or having forces to attack me.

Problem as I see it is gold income at the start is too low. Try making gold income at the start higher in some way?

Alright, I am thinking of making the starting gold higher, so that people can pump out a bunch of peasants to begin with, instead of having that wait-time at the start.

Income is more of a late-game thing, since it is not affected by upkeep. It ise less useful if you research it early, since you would end up sacrificing time & upgrading possibilities (you can't upgrade to Stronghold while researching income).

Ah, then increased starting gold should fix that, since you would be able to set up two or three gold mines at the start of the game with the extra funds.

yeah, that was a big letdown for me. I'd like to see a few things here...

1- balanced onslaught units

1 - Onslaught is in an old version from weeks ago, please play the new one :)

2 - I am trying to find someone to work on an AI for me, since I don't have experience in that field. I still think it is a lot more fun to play with players, even if there was AI though, since diplomacy (allying, unallying, betraying, etc) is no fun with a computer.

3 - Which water area? If you're talking about the bottom left area with the islands, it is purposely designed in that way, to make it hard to move large armies from island to island.

woow, the best altered melee map ever. hands down this is a really great map.
Few things:
great looking terain, though some places are just non-atackable, where there is water the path are too small to bring army to attack them, furthermore building walls there and addinng ranged attackers behind the walls along with the hero that gives ranged units bonus attack is imba so that strategy is really imba.
unit types, although most units are balanced it's very hard to actually win against someone that prefers defencive strategy, imo the units do very little damage to buildings and you practicly must have siege units, though as i've sed adding walls and gates in really imba, especially if the attacker build only melee siege machines.
though i really like the upgrades and gold gainings, it gives you more strategy and the many upgrades, imo you can always be a step forward or backward of the other players!

overall with the exception of some balancing i don't see any reason why this map shouldent be approved!
