The City State of Sparta was located on a peninsula and the capital city of Sparte located on a major river. The City State had numerous ports and the capital city laid on the Eurotas River. Historically, it was used as a transportation route by the Ancient Spartans as an alternative to their port at Gytheio. The spartan navy was even at the height of its power more formidable a force than the traditional Greek naval power of Athens. TL;DR: Yes Sparta had a port :P |

I would like to know what object did you base those palm trees off and where did you get them?

you are correct, I'm very sure my problem was that I'd never seen it on a map with rivers.

Did you know that Greek Sirens were like harpies (half-bird, half-women)? Just to be sure about my statement I checked Wikipedia and I found that confirmed. (However Wikipedia also says this: Quote:
[/NITPICKER MODE] Anyway, after seeing this thread, I'm sure this is a quality work. Congratulations and go on this way! Last edited by Michael Peppers : 04-02-2009 at 12:24 AM. |

well some things seemed very off-greek mythology.. I hope your main source is not Age of Mythology cause the story there is a complete lie that just involves several irelevant names and events of greek mythology in one story.. What i mean is that usually when games or movies getting involved with greek mythology they completely exploit the events and the persons.. they even sometimes relate persons from different stories that according to the original stories they never met each other... So you have to be very carefull and that requires a lot of search!!
I am greek and generaly i'm not a fanatic nationalist.. In fact sometimes with how things are here i get really sick of this country.. But things like mythology exploitation is really annoying... I didn't say that you have done something wrong yet cause i haven't seen the "final product".. this was just a warning that i hope you'll keep in mind. |

As with any 'mythology' there is room for artistic license. If it was all based on fact it would be called 'fact' and not 'mythology.' But we stick pretty close to the accepted mythos as much as we can but sometimes we have to fudge things a little to make them work in game context.
__________________However, I can tell you definitively that we did not Age of Mythology as source material... though I would love to have some of their models. Also, any trees/doodads/ect that you see all came from the Ultimate Terraining Map. I use it a lot to check how tiles will look with certain doodads and since those palm trees looked awesome in a 'Sunken Ruins' type environment I snatched them up. |
