Default How to Place, Scale and Move Doodads

How to Place, Scale, Rotate and Move Doodads
By Archian

NOTE - This is more likely for unexperienced mapmakers.

Introduction:
You can make doodads and destrucibles thinner, smaller, larger, higher and make them "float" above the ground or go under it or rotate them.

Doodads:
You can change the rotation, height and scale % (X, Y, Z) of a doodad.

Destrucibles:
You can't change the scale % of Y and Z of a destrucible.
Only Life % and scale % X.
To rotate a destrucible (like a gate) you have to use the object editor.
And change the Art - Fixed Rotation.

NOTICE - You can double click a doodad or destrucible to get to the Doodad Properties.

Zoom (requires log in)
This picture is of a doodad (Ruins Pillars) not a destrucible. But it shows the rotation and scale %.

Zoom (requires log in)
This is a picture of a destrucible (Ruins Tree Wall). Here the Y and Z is disabled but you change the Life %. Changeing the life % to 0 will destroy the destrucible.

Editing by "Hot Keys"

Heights:
To change the height of a doodad.
• Select the doodad
• Press Ctrl + Page Up (to make it "float" above the ground)
• Press Ctrl + Page Down (to change the height down)

Zoom (requires log in)
A Ruins Pillars "floating" above the ground
Zoom (requires log in)
A Ruins Pillars going under the ground.

NOTE - There are no limit for heights.

Rotation:
To change the rotaion of a doodad.
• Select the doodad
• Press / (not "slash" but "divided" (as in: 4 divided by 2)) to rotate it to the left.
• Press * (not "*" but "times" (as in: 2 times 2)) to rotate it to the right.

Scale % (X, Y, Z):
• The X scale is the units size on the X axis (horizontal),
• The Y scale is the units size on the Y axis (horizontal but the other direction)
• The Z axis is the size on the z axis (height). Pressing + or - changes the units total size (increases the size on all axis).

• Press - to make the scale smaller.
• Press + to make the scale larger.

Like your other tutorial, it is very, very simple. It would not really even take long time to figure out for a newbie. Please expand it, else I will have to graveyard it.

I know it's not my decision, but I'd say keep.
I didn't learn about this until I'd been using the WE for a year or so, and this does explain it so concisely...
(Aside from the mistake: pressing + and - change ALL scales, not just the X.)

I agree with Hyarion.
Many people don't know this stuff and it's well described here.

Approved. (and fixed the mistake, thx for pointing it out)

Rod just told me something cool a few minutes ago:

Page Up: To make only the Z-scale bigger
Page Down: To make only the Z-scale smaller

If in the doodad/destructable editor you set the max scale to 100 and the min scale to 0.01 you can for example make the doodad completely flat on the ground that way. (attention: don't use random scale when placing doodads with such a huge max scale).

Home: Make only X- and Y-scale bigger.
End: Make only X- and Y-sclae smaller.

You shoud include that in your tutorial, and Belphegor's suggestion also makes sense.

I consider myself an experienced mapmaker and somehow I didn't know how to change the height of doodads, and it had been bugging me for a while. Thanks for the tutorial! Sometimes what fails is the basics!

ive only worked with the editor for about a month and this walkthru is very helpful, i only knew how to rotate it by using the ctrl click thing, and the rest of the stuff i had no idea could be done. In short, a quick read with lots fo things that really help when your just starting out

Good tut, but some things you could add are hot keys for higher and lower Z is pg. up and pg. down alone and hot keys for thinner and wider X and Y are end and home.
Another thing is that you should tell them what to set the fixed rotation to in order to allow any rotation, which is -1.
