Diablo III: The Fallen Angel

A dark-gothic-fantasy themed dungeon crawler campaign mod for Warcraft III.
Based on the continuation theories of Diablo III and it's plot by Roland - An Examination of Diablo 3 lore.

ID:	40063Tyrael - The Archangel Tyrael is a member of the legendary Angiris Council. He is the Archangel of Justice.
In the past, when Sanctuary was discovered by the Angiris Council, Tyrael was given the responsibility
to lead the Heavenly Hosts in obliterating Sanctuary. He considered humans to be an
abomination, much like Imperius, spawned by foul Demon blood with the pure Angel blood. But, when Uldyssian
sacrificed himself to save not only the ones he loved, but also the entirety of Sanctuary, he had a change of
heart. He felt that abominations cannot feel sorrow and therefore cannot sacrifice themselves.

When the vote was to be given to decide the fate of Sanctuary, he was among those who felt sympathetic
towards the humans. In fact, it was his vote that saved Sanctuary from imminent destruction. Because, he was
the last to vote, and before him, only Imperius had voted for the destruction of Sanctuary, while both Auriel
and Itherael voted for its existence. But Malthael had not voted and if Tyrael had sided with Imperius, it
would have resulted in a tie that would have destroyed Sanctuary nonetheless because of Imperius' insistence.

BESTIARY:

Zoom (requires log in)Dark Cultists - Cultists are human mages who spawn with Berserkers. Cultists are very weak, but they can shoot fireball projectiles and summon powerful Dark Demons, so it's wise to bypass the hulking Berserkers to kill the Cultists as quickly as possible. Cultists can be recognized from Dark Vessels by their lack of a staff. Vessels have a long staff which curls at the end, on which they lean while summoning up the demons by which they are possessed.
The cultists also have a weak attack of their own, but it's unknown if they can summon more powerful beings to the physical realm.

ID:	40302Berserker - Berserkers are the muscle of the Cultists' evil, demon-worshipping cult. They are massive, powerful men who wear hoods and loincloths and carry huge mauls, with which they are happy to bash your brains in.
Berserkers have a special overhead smashing attack, which they telegraph by powering up their mauls with a reddish glow. Their overhead attack is highly damaging, but if you dodge it the Berserker will hit the floor so hard their maul breaks through the stone and gets stuck there. While the Berserker struggles to pull his weapon free, he is defenseless and can be killed swiftly.
It's not yet known if Dark Cultists or some other caster-type monster can cast any buffs on the Berserkers.

Dark Demon - These odd, half-skeletal creatures are summoned from raw, red manhole-like openings in the ground by Dark Cultists. They are quadrupedal, and look a bit like a dog crossed with a crocodile, then turned inside out. They are quick of foot, but appear to possess only melee attacks.

Dark Cultists do have an attack of their own, though whether they can summon creatures more fearsome than these guys is not known.


Zoom (requires log in)Ghoul - These swarming monsters appear to be the Zombie cannon fodder of Diablo III. They are blue-skinned undead who spawn in great numbers, are quiet but fleet of foot and quick of movement, but are fairly weak and easy too kill.
They die almost as fast as they race to battle... which is quite quickly...

Ghouls might be undead, but are nothing like slow shambling zombies; the Ghouls are fast and uncanny, running hunched over in a bestial, almost quadrupedal style. They climb quickly and leap out at the player from all angles, scaling a huge wall to get into the action. Ghouls generally fight with cruel jagged like fangs.

Zoom (requires log in)Wretched Dead - These slow moving Zombies are a bit larger than the base model zombie, and can presumably take a bit more punishment. They are a very similar creature though, shambling around aimlessly, too stupid to use weapons or spells, only dangerous in large groups.

Wretched deads have a unique talent, in that upon death they don’t seem to rest in peace but instead rise up again to continue the hunt after human intruders, still intent on battle.
And why shouldn't they? It was only a flesh wound, after all.

Wraiths - Wraiths return in Diablo III, and while their function looks about the same, their graphics have been substantially improved. They were seen emerging from Ghostly Orbs in the WWI 2008 gameplay movie, and it's not known if they can only come from those odd monster generators, or if they'll be found roaming (floating) freely in the dungeons as well.
Wraiths have a melee slashing attack, and a ranged life drain attack as well. That one has a lovely graphic, with a swirling stream of blueish vapour flowing from the character to the Wraith. Characters under such an attack also suffer a substantial penalty to their movement speed.
Over all, their damage dealt does not seem to be substantial, and it's mainly a matter of ploughing through the movement drain and kill them, or the Ghostly Orbs, whichever is the source of grief.


Zoom (requires log in)Lamprey - Lamprey are squirming eels that emerge in a flood from a ruptured Grotesque. They are not powerful monsters, but are disgusting in their fecundity and must be stomped out, like giant maggots. The eels, properly called Lamprey are wriggling creatures that must be killed lest they consume your character's toes, but they seem to die very quickly, and on the whole the Grotesque/Lamprey combo looks more inventive and amusing than dangerous. In fact, the amount of Lamprey that explodes from a dead Grotesque seems to be way too many to fit inside the body. Still, that's the nature of magic.

The animation of Lamprey explosion is very much overemphasized, and out of the huge pile of maggots, only a handful are actually capable of chopping off any player toes. The few slightly larger eels will attack, but dies easily and one AoE attack usually kills them all.


Zoom (requires log in)Grotesque - One of the more interesting monsters seen in the WWI 2008 gameplay movie, the Grotesque are basically living piņatas. They are fat, white, humanoid monsters, who has a very simple attack. What they do instead is run up to a player who comes into range, hits them, receives quite a few hits, bend over backwards and rupture into a massive fountain of wriggling silver eels. There seem to be far more eels within a grotesque than their volume would permit, but such is the nature of magic.

The eels, properly called Lamprey are wriggling creatures that must be killed lest they consume your character's toes, but they seem to die very quickly, and on the whole the Grotesque/Lamprey combo looks more inventive and amusing than dangerous. One AoE attack usually kills them all.

Zoom (requires log in)The Fallen Ones, Overseer - The fallen overseer drives his smaller impish charges into a frenzy with his ape-like leaping and growling. An overseer among a group of fallen is a dangerous thing, as the cowardice that usually characterizes them is overwhelmed by fear of their much larger brethren.

ID:	45941The Skeletal Undead, Shield Skeleton - In contrast to the other undead horrors our world has been plagued with – namely the mindless zombies and the pack-hunting ghouls – skeletons are much more dangerous as a whole because of their ability to be organized and directed. Based on the evidence, it takes only slightly more energy to imbue skeletons with enough intelligence to use shields to defend themselves and their allies. These "shield skeletons", as I like to call them, are alarmingly common, though not as numerous as a basic skeletal warrior.

If my aforementioned points do not convince the skeptic of the gravity of this issue, consider the case of the skeletal summoner. This advanced skeletal warrior is specifically created with a higher intelligence that gives it the ability to replenish the undead ranks as needed. Yes, adding summoners to the unholy, undead mix results in a nauseating recipe for a self-sustaining army, capable of renewing itself in perpetuity so as to fulfill whatever diabolical ends its master called it forth to pursue.

Bound to the mortal realm in his cursed form.

Thousand Pounder - Thousand Pounder is a special boss monster, seen in the WWI 2008 gameplay movie and a few related screenshots. It's not known if he's one particular individual out of a whole class of big, fat, dual-wielding, tattooed, Demons, or if he's a special, one-of-a-kind demon. He's not an Act Boss or a major Quest boss though, that much was made clear in the panels at the WWI event.

The Demon is summoned (as is described below), and sets to attack the player. Once he's ready to rumble, Thousand Pounder moves slowly, but with tremendous power, and deals heavy damage with his two large maces. When he smacks his two maces together, you don't want to be standing in the impact zone. In the gameplay movie, a Barbarian avoids damage by jumping around the beast with Leap Attack and uses Furious Charge to smash through the fatty monster. Other classes will likely be able to have some sort of similar mobility skills, like the Wizard skill Teleport.

When his life drops below about 50%, he kicks into an enraged mode. At that point his tattoos begin to glow red and he moves much more quickly. He retains this rage until he is killed.

The Thousand Pounder doesn't have any additional minions or other monsters to help him out, so if the player uses an avoidance tactic, and tries to damage him with ranged attacks, or forcing him to use his strong but slow attacks, dodging them, and counter attacking before the Pounder retaliates, he can be taken down easily. Just remember not to get hit by the maces, and you'll be fine.

HIRELINGS:

You will find several rescueable hirelings like the old familiar "Ironwolves" through out the game. Simply clicking on them orders them to follow you. This allows you to form a small party quickly and easily to aid you in the battle against the legions of the Burning Hells.
The type of hirelings you can find vary as you venture further into the game world. As your enemies become stronger, so does you and the rescueable hirelings. This makes them quite useful when you’re up against powerful bosses which may prove to be too great a challenge when faced alone.
So if you happen to run into a small party of rescueable hirelings, make sure you allow them to tackle along.
Some might even show their gratitude for not leaving them alone in the dark...

fyi, purgatory is ascendant, a being associated with purgatory would be considered good. Tyrael, for example, could be associated with purgatory.. just like, fyi...

I'm making models for the Wiz spells right now, screenies coming up --

Heeeeere the TeleportFX.mdx is. I'm not that satisfied with the outcome, anyone got a better option for the texture of the 'airboom'?

Oh, and we could use the attached texture (made by Mc !) for the Disintegrate lightning...

new Desintigrate looks bad ass

on an additional note, if anyone has played the latest version of DotA (since 6.58), they have a new model for Chronosphere on the Faceless Void. It is awesome, and looks exactly like the model for Slow Time in the D3 teasers - I have no idea who made it, but im sure one of you two could check it out and make our own version, so we're not "stealing", per say - its just too dman ownage to pass up

if we did use that, I would have to port current and future enemy spells/attack projectiles to a central missile system to make use of it

I plan on making custom tilesets.

And there's of course the light source way. Only problem is I dont feel like attaching a torch to the characters, so I'm wondering if there exists a light source model I can attach instead but still achieve the same effect as if I used a torch?

This is a definite map to keep your eyes on =)
