Default Underwater effect for maps

since I posted a few pics of "underwater" scenes in wc3 people kept asking me about how I created that effect, so I decided to make a tutorial about it.

Tools Needed
Warcraft3 World Editor

Making the Effect
Zoom (requires log in)
it's actually quite simple
you open the map you want to make the underwater landscape in
no need to use any of the wc3 water to create this effect.
firstly
you have to add fog.
go to: Scenario, Map options.
then you'll get this window

most of the options don't matter for this, but make sure you get the fog right, if it's not dense enough it wont look like real water, the color of the fog/water effect is also very important. You should experiment with the specs of the fog in order to get the right effect, because not all water looks the same. to complete the effect you add the weather effect "moon rays", wich then looks like light coming through the water.
that's about it, but you can also add interesting terrain, fish and such to create an overall realistic underwater environment.
if you want to add the fish doodads, but you want them to swim higher you select one of the fish doodads and press "CTRL" and "Page Up", this works on every doodad if you want to raise the height.

Have fun terraining.

The only problem with this is if you have units that are not stationed originally in the water, such as a Naga where you cannot have its swim animation play...which will make your underwater scene lose the effect..basically

you use the same effect, but basicly less doodads and deeper then a sea.

Hello, I am new here, Olofmolema, you could make a model of a dragoon? The effect of the fog is brilliant. I am Spanish. I do not speak english, I use a translator. I say it in case some word escapes and it does not correspond.

Pretty nice Olof, but I'd like to suggest use less Moon Rays, use multiple small regions seperated and placed almost randomly, and set them to moonlight, it will give a nicer looking effect imo.

The naga swimming through the water can be done with a couple triggers that aren't too hard, have been experementing with it for awhile in the World Editor for some of my series. I'd look at the triggers and get them now, but I don't have Wc3 installed atm since I recently formatted the computer.

I'll get a screen of something like it a bit later..if I remember.

That is nice indeed although I think you should add a part about doing this with triggers. If you don't want the entire map to have that effect until a certain time like me.
