Default Unkor Unbroken

I had this piece of *crap* lying around, so I decided why not post it? It's non-warcraft, rather a different fantasy world, but... doesn't matter. So, tell me what you think about it . Made entirely with brushes, no dodge/burn/smudge.

As for the picture... This creature has serious feet problems.. And it LOOKS like you've used dodge/burn. It also looks kinda flat.

By everything its 100% right?

This forum degenerated into a bashing one. No wonder it died in the first place. It should had stayed that way.

The reason to be wary of dodge, burn, smudge or most photo editting tools is not because they are inherently bad tools, but because of the look they effect. If you're going to use photoshop/whathaveyou to paint with, treat it like paints. This looks smeary and convoluted. Exploit relationships with edges; contrast hard edged with soft, and do this with a plan in mind so that it has a reason.

Try to be a bit more subtle with your color choices: his skin is red, yes, but why use a primary? The viewer sees it, thinks "red, alright, what's next?" Use desaturated colors, and mix the shadows with a complementary color so that there is contrast. Your highlights are white and your shadows black; what are you trying to communicate with the light?

Think of the design and try to best communicate his aspects. He has long arms and his hunkered over, but why don't you push this? Make his arms llke tree trunks and give him a boxish body. His pose is upright, which could communicate pride or strength, but his arms and head are pushed down, in contrast with this. You need a character and his traits in mind, and you have to allow every aspects of your art to communicate his character to us.

And guys, you can critique it, but try to offer help. If you don't like it, at least say why so you're giving the artist something to work with. If you're going to take the trouble to post, why not try to be a little helpful, or what are you here for? Giving the artist an objective virewpoint is important so he can evaluate his work, but there should be a reason to it. If the production is bad tell him why. If the concept needs work, supply some ideas.

He needs a lot more muscle definition in the arms.
As of right now, they look like polyamorous blobs attached to a body.

Also, the blood stain effect on the dagger looks to be spray-painted on.
It doesn't look natural, try to give it the effect of it being crusted/dried on rather than a can of red spraypaint.

And I think the purple skirt totally breaks continuity of the colors.
It draws too much attention to itself and takes too much attention away from the rest of the picture.
Make it less bright, add some blood stains, make it BLEND with the rest of the picture.
His dagger is dripping with blood, yet he managed to keep the skirt 100% stain free?
Doesn't seem correct.

And one last thing, the dagger through a heart(?) on his belt appears extremely two dimensional.
Perhaps you should add more depth and shading to it.
