Yeah, import the file, and instead of changing them to a bunch of spaces, change them to what you want.

Would anyone know a way to imitate player chat messages? As in half game message text size, and closer to the bottom left.

Unfortunately it's not possible to make the font smaller and get messages more to the bottom-left corner.

I've built a small chat library around this, which emulates normal chat messages with the possibility to filter out messages you do not want displayed.

To filter out certain messages simply call the FilterTextMessage function with that message as argument in your chat trigger.

However it's important that the Catch Messages trigger is pasted after all other chat triggers in your map, because otherwise it will fire before your own chat triggers and the filter won't work.

Another problem is that we're not able to detect whether chat has been set to allies/observers/all in the menu so atm the system is using the following prefixes:

.a Speak to allied players only.
.o Speak to observers only.

All other messages will be displayed to all players if you didn't specify to skip them first with FilterTextMessage. Whispered messages will be filtered too.

Attached is the map with the demo triggers.

@MrApples: It's possible to do with texttags, see screenshot. The problem is that it requires camera control, which only few maps have.

@PitzerMike: Just a note, using "/" as the first character in a chat message will attempt to invoke a battle.net command (in a battle.net game ofc), which won't trigger the chat detection event. Use "." or "-" instead. ("." is suggested because some asian keyboards do not have the "-" key)

Using PitzerMike's example i modified it to include codes that i made, which allow for you to add colors to text, giving a pretty good reason to use the attached map as a speech engine.

EDIT: updated chatlib2.w3x
additions

1) speech coloring
2) talk to player
3) 'debug' function

Could you release the map that made that screenshot? that looks neat and i would like to see the triggers.
