Default Dalaran Decay

Here's a darker Dalaran cliff and base tile pair, done by request.

To install, import the files into your map using these paths:

DDecayCliff.blp imports as ReplaceableTextures\Cliff\Cliff1.blp
DDecayBase.blp imports as TerrainArt\DalaranRuins\DRuins_SquareTiles.blp

I think you should make a pack instead. This tile "alone" is not quite useful...it looks like some hue/saturation mixing with some brightness/contrast.

Thanks, Kebabmeat. It's always great to recieve a compliment. If you ever want a tile done, feel free to request it.

Celestea- that's actually the second time I've been told something similar to that. The tiles were made in response to a request for an "undead, decaying dalaran", and the changes have actually been quite a bit more involved than a simple hue-sat change, although they were intentionally subtle.

There's quite a bit of custom work on the cliffs- I went through 13 different drafts, over the period of a week (about 7 hrs of work total) to achieve the effect I wanted. A lot of those drafts involved larger-scale changes which were eventually scrapped- complete stone replacement, more vines, mosslike blight, fleshy portrusions, etc. None of them looked like Dalaran.

As far as the actual ground tile, the changes were quite minimal, you are correct- noise to enhance the grit factor, some level adjustments, hue-sat work, manual re-highlighting, touchup around the tile edges (which, to be honest, still don't align 100% seemlessly in-game, despite the edges matching fairly well in the actual texture. I think it might be due to how they've been compressed, or something. I checked, and most Blizzard tiles have this issue if you stare at them funny.) but the ground tile really wasn't the focus of this work.

Still, the idea of releasing a pack does have merit, and perhaps later I will do so-- right now, I'm just working on the mapping contest and taking requests. If there is a particular tile you'd like to see, I'd love for you to suggest it.

from what i see, it's like a grayscaled sepia image and you added a few bones. and more blight in cracks.

If anyone else runs into the problem Jacek is having, I'd like to refer them to Vexorian's awesome skin importing tutorial, which also applies to tiles.

The short answer:
Either the path where you imported the new texture was wrong, you didn't import the second part (the one that goes over TextureArt\DalaranRuins\DRuins_SquareTiles.blp) or (most likely) you need to close/re-open the editor to view the new tile.
