I am aware of polyboost for quite some time now, but I don't use it.
I don't use glu3d. For fluid simulation I used to use Real Flow.

A little topology problem. This is the butt of a spider and I avoided the use of trigons at the end of it but the topology doesn't please me. What do you think? And how could it be made better?

If this is low poly then yes, Nas is right you should make them triangles.

Do you think the polygon amount on Mr thorny maggot is good on all places? I have a tiny feeling that the legs should have 8 instead of 6 sides. :/

Nah the legs look fine. You need smoothing groups though. And wireframe shots.

1. a wireframe would have been better
2. triangles are bad even at tips when modeling high poly, because it will look like a boob with a pointy nipple most of the times. It's better to have a very small ngon at the tip of a horn/thorn than a gathering of triangles.
