Sounds a pretty neat idea, I'd like to see some things higher quality and stuffs... And I have heard a lot about bad unwraps.

For the b.net thing, another option might be a batch script.

I figure something like this one that I just wrote: (Yes, I have way to much spare time. =P)

hmm, I think that if you set the models in folders inside the wc3 directory, they may load, but i'm not sure if only in WE or in Game also.

Btw, try not to increase the original image size, since most of the models made will be re-edited.

If you wish I can reimport the models to a max format with animations perfectly & everything [xept particles, camera, lights & events].

more detailed models will only be usefull if the whole mpq gets replaced, if we are only going to fix a few models so people can edit them more easily then higher poly models wont be needed, only fixes.
So, I'm curious whether a replacing mpq with fixes and maybe a few prettier models would work without issues, cause if it does, then I'm all for a complete mpq instead of a few separate models.

Yeah, it would. You'd just have 2 MPQ files, one official one, and one new one, and the new one would be the default one, and just running the batch file (or a desktop shortcut to the same...) would switch to the old MPQ file and run the game.

One annoying thing is that due to the way WC3 launches, only TFT can be directly launched, through war3.exe, RoC needs the fancier exe with the splash screen to run. The upshot of this with the batch file I created is that you have to 'press any key' in the command console window it creates when you have finished playing to swap them back afterwards. (Or run the batch file again...)

A quick thing I added aswell was a 'first run' section of the batch file where it swaps out the old MPQ for the new one, and tells you how to use the batch script.

Anyway, it's only a draft, and I could easily modify it for any new MPQ, or more complex situation that you might throw at me. =)

P.S. Forgot to say, there is also a quick expansion thingy in the script, which means it could cope with a 4 MPQ situation, with the official TFT MPQ, and a new TFT MPQ, without need of a different script.

Why not just go for an executable MPQ, so you can run that for singleplayer, but run the game normally for b.net?
