Removing Hero Abilities Completely: Is it possible?

When I try and remove a hero ability from a unit, all it does is unlearn it. Is there any way of removing it completely from the list of abilities that a unit CAN learn?
Please tell me there is... Otherwise I'm going to have to make a custom abilities system, and I really don't feel like bothering... :-P
