A flag that lets one set how many bits/bytes of the mantissa to wipe could be really useful. I imagine just a couple more bits would fix any models that do have problems.

For normals and the like the 7b (or even less maybe) is always going to be fine, but with positions it figures that it won't always work well with that little.

Yeah, that's probably a good idea, PipeDream. I assumed that zeroing fractions of bytes wouldn't help the file size, but it's probably a good idea to at least try that.

Can you post that model, nooK?

It worked fine when I used it (a good saving of 200+kb too).

wonder if this would improve the ratio of mdx files when using mpq's zlib deflate

It's not working for me. I am using Windows XP, and I have tried this on a variety of models. All it is doing for me is duplicating the original model with no size deduction.

That's not what it does; it has no apparent effect on filesize until the model is compressed. Fill a map with squished models, and one with unsquished. Then notice the difference in the maps' actual filesizes.

nvm, finally got it to work, shaved almsot 100kb off my map size, without any visual loss of quality I could detect, way to go

Used this tool on one of my maps and reduced total file size by 400kb.

Excellent program with no side effects or loss of graphics.

I'd like to hear more people's testimonials though so we can find out if ther's any other bugs besides nook's model.

I'm not a programmer so don't jump on me if what I'm about to ask is stupid; but I was wondering, could be possible to cut the last bits of the mdl data (normals, coordinates, keyframes)?

For example from:

Code:
Geoset {
	Vertices 365 {
		{ 3.23935, -0.0245, 22.1241 },
		{ 4.20024, 11.4451, 12.5189 },
		{ -3.88427, 14.366, 13.4106 },
		{ -5.42209, 10.8431, 3.64725 },

To:
Code:
Geoset {
	Vertices 365 {
		{ 3.23, -0.02, 22.12 },
		{ 4.20, 11.44, 12.51 },
		{ -3.88, 14.3, 13.41 },
		{ -5.42, 10.84, 3.64 },

That cuts size of mdl, so it would only take effect if you import the mdl . The mdx is binary so every real would still take 4 bytes

This didn't do anything to the gargoyle model I used it on. I squished it and it was still the same size.
