Alright, I wanted to post some of my first icons. I'm using them for my campaign, and feel that they could use some criticism before I actually put them in. Oh yeah, borders added using cohadar's wc3borderizer.

Nothing too special. Are those silver and golden things supposed to be axes of some sort?

They are all a bit blury, i think blizz used higher rez then u!
__________________did u use the gem making tutorial for ur gem? =P i think it needs more contrast anyway The metal thing is... weird =S and the heart beat will be realy realy small in game, maybe make it bigger. As was said before, the gold and silver axes are a bit strange, they need to be changed, or have a glow or sumthing. Can you plz tell what the icons are for, so we can say more =) |

Why does the green blob thing look so crappy in comparison to the same one in your avatar? Your avatar is actually the best of all these icons, unless you took the green blob from your avatar and messed with it a bit.

except for the ones with the crosses and such, they look like interface icons and are fine.

NOTE: You have been redirected in order for our attachments to be made available to you. This will only last two minutes; these measures where taken to avoid hotlinking and bandwidth theft. To avoid these restrictions Log in or Register Ok, I scratched these with PhotoImpression 3, and I'll look into fixing the crosses and axes. I took the green one and made the one you see in my sig last night.
EDIT: Here's the Ice axe, the Icicle, and the green blob. They are going to be items in my campaign. The Ice Axe is also an ability, while that pulse is for the credits/bugs quests. Those crosses are based on the Icewind Dale II Cure Light Wounds, etc. icons. EDIT2: All right, I can't figure out how to make the red crosses better. That doesn't look like ice at all. And they look very sloppy overall, but that's possibly because you're not very experienced (you can fix it by practice!).
__________________Now about that ice...yeah, well ice is basically transparent but making something transparent isn't really spectacular and looks very plain, especially when you don't even know how to render refraction correctly (it is VERY difficult). Best method to sell the illusion of icy stuff is to paint the object in white and blue-green hues and make it shiny, but not transparent. Kinda like an iceberg, you know, really dense ice. Like this: ![]() That looks more like ice to me. Last edited by TDR : 04-29-2008 at 11:14 PM. |

Ok. Ok, I guess I could try that... should I use the pen, or the paintbrush?

PEN???? My god no...paint brush all the way. The pen is good only if you want to perfectly mask something without antialiasing.

Makes me wonder why the have it! Okay, I favor the paintbrush and the spray paint anyways.Oh! here's two more that I just did a few moments ago. I'm going to use my version of the Ice axe, because it reminds me of Ice Wind Dale II (is there an abbreviation for that?). One question. Is there a way to smooth out the backgrounds in any of my icons? EDIT: I saw your post, but thought it looked too much like blizzard, is this better though? MSPaint? no... Sadly, I use a weak photo editing program that came with a crap camera. I'd show you some pictures from it, but it's so small, I lost it. It also drained every triple-A battery after 1-5 pictures, making it useless as it's memory is stored ON the camera.

man...at least use Gimp...or get a hold of Photoshop if you can. Seriously now...I thought your lack of skill was dragging these down, but looks like it's that crap thing you use to make them.

I just tried GIMP to edit the three icons that I really like, I just don't know how to use it yet and closed out the little box that lets you pick the tool size.
Anyways, here's their size before I put them into the borderizer.EDIT: Ok, How do these look? Last edited by Sunwarrior25 : 06-19-2008 at 06:54 PM. |
