What would be the point behind SC2 anyhow?
A 4th, and possibly 5th race? More features? 3D ?
It's pointless. IMO anyway.

Uh.. The main reason for any sequel. Story.

Yes... definiately the story, I think starcraft had the best story of all of blizzard's series, and it had the biggest community/mods developed for it. Most of us came from the starcraft community. I'd imagine that it would have 5 races and obiously be in 3d.

it would still need new units, maybe drop some of the old, and basically reinvent itself, providing new junk while remaining StarCraft-y.

No- That's been the trend. If they wanted to, they could release another expansion for SC right now. People would buy it. Millions would buy it.

Hundreds of Millions.
Reasons for SC2: story, 4th & ~5th race, 2-3 new units per old race, general improvement of graphics (to bring the prehistoric 640x480x8 2D into the 3rd millenium), better controls & UI...
Upon release, PR will do the last two of these. If they later decide to make a campaign, or make 1-2 new units per race, I'll happily volunteer to write the plots and balance the units.
Right now, since I'm not a graphics artist, all I can do is tell them not to change Warcraft III's ctrl's (cause it's ahead of SC's by ages, and it doesn't need improving) and b*tch in hope of promoting a sooner release, and wait to see if they'll want to make a story and a couple units - 2 tasks that I can help out with.

This is just being picky, but can you change "There is no SC2. - Added in." to "There will be no SC2 - Added in"
I'm just being a grammar purist.

Yea, i think that starcraft it just way to succesful, bnet scraft is still one of the most active internet game centers out there after 7-8 years. I think blizzard wants to wait to accelerate that aspect of their games until they have to.

"is" and "will be" seem to suggest two different things. One being that at the moment there is no SC2, and the other that there will never be an SC2.

Exactly.
We know that there currently is no Starcraft II, but to keep in similar theme of the poll, which is predicting the opinion on a future event, we should change it to will be.

It may just be a trend, but it wouldn't exactly be particularly innovative of them not to add anything to it. Sure, the current StarCraft formulae is perfect for what it is- but why should they reuse that for a sequel, instead of doing something new? SC:Ghost is doing something new, although with some bits and pieces of questionable originality (like the new forms of transportation...), but it's still quite a fresh idea.
StarCraft isn't fresh, its been around for like, 8 years now. I'm sure that if they made a new RTS-game for the series, they'd much rather create something new, and fans would most likely also rather see something new, instead of the same thing with new gfx.

yes, because more often than not, nintendo wouldn't even update the gfx anyway.
