This is a MMO browser game. If you don't like browser games, shoo.
http://beta.astroempires.com/home.aspx
It has a fairly big community, which turns out to be very active.
The tutorial on the site may be a bit confusing; here is a short tutorial on what to do once you sign up and login which should get you going:
1. Once logged-in, click "Bases" in the upper menu.
2. In the lower menu, you should see one link under the "Base" option, probably named "Home Planet". Click it.
3. You are now inside the controls of the only planet under your control (as of now). Since you just started the game, you'll probably want to increase your Income, which would be than very low. To do that, click the "Structures" link, and start producing structures. It would be a good idea to ignore Solar Plants, and aim to upgrade Metal Refineries as much as you can. Add "Metal Refineries" to the queue in the bottom of the page as much as you can. Once you can't, add "Gas Plants" once, and return to adding "Metal Refineries" (which should become enabled than).
Keep upgrading "Metal Refineries" until it's around level 7-9, and than start focusing on other things as well.
4. Once you choose to construct Research Labs, and finish level 1, click the "Research" tab and start adding researches to the queue.
Ignore Defenses and Production in the earlier stages. You get a week of protection once you sign-in as long as you don't attack anyone, so you'll be safe... for now.
#Info#
In the Structures tab, the "Credits" line represents how much credits you need to pay to construct that structure. Energy shows how much energy the structure either gives (+) or requires (_). Economy shows how much credits per hour that structure gives you per level.
You'll probably figure out the rest by yourself later. Good luck!
If you want, post your coordinates here so that the others can set a trade route to you... *cough*or attack route*cough* :p

Come on DT I was kidding, you get a week-long protection mode anyway so I won't be able to attack you... and by the week's end you'll probably have enough defenses to fend up my losey fighters.
Than again, in a week, I'll have more than just those losey fighters :p
And w00t Invader how is your progress?
Mine is:
Construction 28
Production 26
Research 18
Economy 21
Energy 20/23
Population 27/35
Player Level: 6.78
:p

That would be a good idea. If none of us has any plans to BS the other. The way this game is set up, however, I don't think they'd make it very far past each other's defenses.
@ TiB0: Woah! You play that one, too? So awesome, isn't it? You know it has the most players, options, and features of any game in existence?!?!?

Life costs a lot of money though, and it has a really crappy and imbalanced gameplay. Graphics isn't all that matters, really, if I had to point out one good thing about life is the lack of lag which makes up for a nice real-time play. However, I'd still rather play other games beyond it.
As for a guild, I already have one - [GD] Galactic Defender. Feel free to join us.

I've already been asked to join a guild. One of those with probably 1000+ members. I'd rather just be on my own the first time around. -_-

This looks pretty interesting, seems like it could keep somebody occupied when they're really bored.
I've gotten an account, but it's slooow. Ten minutes?! Shiiiit.

Well I just started, and have joined a guild. This game reminds me of all the other text based RTS games I have played, only this one is actually fun.

Come on CNX. Browser MMOs are a great experience, it's like a competition between many people which involves resource management that includes putting into consideration time VS cost VS effort, along with diplomatic moves which may either help you or put you in the wrong position. This is like real life marketing only that instead of getting paid for doing well you get fake money on the game :p
---
I already control three planets, and I'm about to colonize my 4rh is less than 3 hours. 5th is on the way, as well. My economy is at the whooping amount of 79 ^_^
Invader, my guild already has 3 members, maybe you'd join us? There's no point to be in a lone guild; together, we could set trade routes to get extra money, and later on combine our fleets together to KILL STUFF MUAHAHAHA.

If you never played browser games before, this is basically a real-time game where you can play a character in an imaginary world (universe, in this case). It's a MMO, meaning that it goes on all the time, even when you're logged off - which would translate to you being asleep in the game.
The goal is to be the best. Simple. Well, it isn't :p
