I actually tryed out Vista and it's not so bad after all...
It features a few interesting things but it's mainly a refactoring version on Windows XP...
Plus some nasty bugs (i had to config the net adapter each time i started the system up)...
I could take into account passing to Vista only after SP1 is out...
No wait! SP1 should introduce the new file system WinFS, and other bugs, so i'd better wait for SP2 if it doesn't introduce any other component...
Anyway when Windows XP came out it's been the same...
Just my 2 cent...

The only way I'll use it is if, by the time I get a newer laptop (which will probably have Vista bundled and added to the price tag), the Linux world does not develop an OS that can run all third-party apps and programs designed for Windows XP and Vista. I know for sure that I'm not gonna just go to a shop and buy Vista like that. But bundled with a new computer I may use it. The only reason I'm using WinXP right now is because Linux and Mac can't run the programs designed for Windows: the programs I learned to use.
Linux has the best exploitation of hardware. An example of this is Linux allowing to partition your HDD to use one partition as RAM!
I already have WMP11, IE7 (tho I don't use this one, long live FF2 portable!), and the COMPLETE MS Office 2007 System running on my WinXP SP2.
Vista adds NOTHING, absolutely no functionality to WinXP and/or third-party software that runs on WinXP. Not even looks, just p2p the latest version of WindowBlinds and you've got the high-techest looking computer.
And for heaven's sake, if the geeks over at M$ had any brains they should have thought that what is desparately needed is a Metadata-enabled File System. A File System that allows you to add multiple tags in multiple fields (such as "Photographer" and "Model" for image files) to your files so that your personal database (AKA "My Documents", which now is measured in multiple GB ) becomes searchable. This is what we need, not some bloated OS. I'm a Gmail user, and I can tell you Labeling (as opposed to sorting in folders) email messages is frickin' miraculous.
For those of you who don't have Gmail to know what I'm talking about, open Windows Media Player and enjoy how easy it is to search your music library thanks to the metadata music file formats allow to be attached to them.

http://apcmag.com/5082/10_reasons_you_should_get_vista
Says it *has* got good search options, better file navigation and some other stuff.
Don't get me wrong, I don't like Vista very much from what I've read about it so far. But I'm getting a new computer soon and I bet it'll have Vista with it.

Actually the only thing I really miss on Windows XP is the Vista's Folder Explorer (i'm not sure if this is the correct english name) and the boot time (Vista halved the boot time of my system)...
Any other thing was already present in some way in XP or not yet used otherway (DirectX X)...

the first reason not to buy a mac is its price...
XP is much cheaper and works fine as well...
anyway i don't mean to start a flame...
all you apple-lovers (many friends of mine are) wear Guru Steve's mind washing machine, so discussing is simply useless...

Despite it's norrible corporate nature, and slow response to changes Windows is still the system of choice. it's popularity speaks for itself .....

if apple out MacOS on x86 machines then Apple would have a larger market share than it is today maybe more than Microsoft and Bill Gates wouldnt have $60 Billion or something
but no, MacOS is exclusive only to Apple's own computers

Read the links at the top. Basically Microsoft's pandering to hollywood and music companies and restricting functionality and user-friendliness.

Patriarc Zeratul: have you tried or even read about other OSs such as Linux?
I encourage the hacking of those "features".
And as COOLer would say: Those aren't features, they're bugs
Damn if someone could make a hybrid OS combining the support for third-party software Windows has with the superior hardware exploitation of Linux, however copyright-infringing that OS would be. "Winux" "Lwinux" "Lindows" "Lwindows"... hmm

Windux; obviously. As a logo it could have a duck (rather than a penguin).
